Drama Department presents "The Drowsy Chaperone"

Deer Lakes Drama’s latest production, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” will deliver on endless humor that will be sure to make you laugh throughout each show at 7PM April 3rd, 7PM April 4th and 2PM and 7PM April 5th in the Deer Lakes High School Auditorium.
Deer Lakes junior Gavin Windows plays "The Man in the Chair", a musical theater devotee who guides the audience through the playing of his favorite Broadway cast album, "The Drowsy Chaperone."
As he plays the record, the show "comes to life" in his living room.
Gavin is joined by a cast of 35, which includes seniors Morgan Adams, Kayla Almada, Lia Deforce-Petersen, Peyton Moran, Willow Racan, Martina Saldamarco and Marianna Vergerio.
“People should come see this show because, while it may be a comedy, the underlying truth is that everyone has the power to tell a beautiful story in their own unique way,” Marianna, who will play the Drowsy Chaperone, said. “It's an escape into the world of vibrant characters, reminding us that adults, too, can use their imagination to conjure stunning imagery. Each person has their own vision of their character, experiencing it in a different light. It's truly inspiring to witness such a talented cast come together to create "The Drowsy Chaperone.’”
Directed by Mr. Matthew Derby and Ms. Natalie Earls, “The Drowsy Chaperone” promises to be one of the most light-hearted and truly funny shows to hit the Deer Lakes stage. In addition to the actors on stage, the show features the creative talents of students who took leadership roles in set design, choreography, lighting, sound, makeup and publicity.
“It’s been super exciting to be able to have these super over the top scenes with my castmates and to be able to constantly laugh at the jokes throughout the show, no matter how many times we hear them,” Willow, who will play the Bride and glamorous show girl Janet Van De Graaf, said.
The upcoming shows will be bittersweet for seniors.
“Being a part of the drama department has meant the world to me,” Willow said. “It’s honestly surreal to think that it’ll all be over next week. I love theatre. It truly is my passion. The community we have within our department has made it a very easy choice to be a part of the drama department for so long. I love each and every one of my friends to the core and will forever be grateful to the drama department for allowing us to create a community and giving me all of the people I love most. The people down here are some of my closest and dearest friends. And the awesome thing is that the shows are what brought us all together.”
“The relationships I have cultivated with my peers throughout the years have been nothing short of extraordinary,” Marianna added. “I have truly enjoyed the experience of connecting with individuals from various age groups, both younger and older, which has enriched my perspective and understanding of our community. Each year, I have celebrated the achievements of those graduating, feeling a mix of pride and nostalgia as I reflect on the journeys we’ve shared. At the same time, I have eagerly welcomed incoming students, excited to guide them and help them acclimate to our environment. These interactions have created a vibrant tapestry of experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie that I deeply cherish. It has been a pleasure to create lifelong friendships and make lasting memories throughout the years.”
