The FBI’s Teen Academy program in Pittsburgh and West Virginia allows a diverse group of high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and to investigate the world of law enforcement. Active explorations of fitness and forensic science grow students’ minds and bodies while age-appropriate lessons on topics such as violence prevention, sextortion, and hoax threats teach them how to stay safe. FBI staff, including special agents, intelligence analysts, and professional staff, lead discussions and interactive sessions focused on the work we do, how we do it, and, most importantly, why we choose this work in service of all Americans.
  
 Any student with an interest in leadership and service is welcome to apply for this free opportunity. An interest in a law enforcement career is not a prerequisite.
 
 Requirements
 Students who will be rising juniors or seniors in the 2024/25 school year are eligible to apply. 
 
 Students who are 16 or older may be subject to a simple background check process, and they must provide their Social Security number for that purpose. Students 16 and older are also required to show Real ID-compliant photo identification when entering FBI space. 
 
The selection process is competitive, and all students should give their best effort in completing this application. A selection committee will evaluate each application based on a review of the information provided, and no single element (GPA, school/community service, or essay) is disqualifying. Applications that are incomplete, illegible, or late will not be accepted. 
 
 Students are expected to advocate for themselves to throughout this process, including asking for further information about the program or the application process, if necessary. Students may request information about the Beckley, Charleston, Martinsburg, and Wheeling Teen Academies by contacting wnbarnhart@fbi.gov or about the Pittsburgh Teen Academy by contacting fatrovato@fbi.gov at any time.

 The next Teen Academy program will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Monroeville Public Safety Training Center, 2465 Johnston Rd, Monroeville, PA 15146. The academy will run from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  
  Applications 
   
 Students should submit the APPLICATION by email (preferred) or mail no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. We will notify students of their application status by email no later than Thursday, September 26, 2024. Students selected to participate in the FBI Teen Academy will be given additional information about the program and will be required to confirm their acceptance into this program. If selected students do not respond to the acceptance email by the deadline given, the student’s application will be discontinued.

More than 100,000 high school students from across the country have participated in our transformative Spirit of America Youth Leadership program. Students engage directly with the first principles of freedom and they debate both their constitutional rights and responsibilities in our Freedom Summit while learning about economic freedom, entrepreneurship and the free enterprise system.  Along with a thorough understanding of civic responsibility, students leave inspired to do their part in securing the liberties that only an active citizenry can safeguard in their own communities, guided by a greater appreciation for our history, ideals, and the relevance of our country’s charters of freedom.

The Elmer Hafer American Legion State Police National Guard Youth Camp brings together the PA National Guard, the American Legion, and the State Police to give students firsthand experience in many areas of law enforcement and the military.  This program enhances leadership skills, discipline self-discipline, and self-esteem to morally, intellectually, and physically prepare cadets as future leaders.

Established in 1936, Pennsylvania American Legion Keystone Boys State is an educational workshop for high school student leaders.  Students selected to attend KBS have the opportunity to gain leadership skills through an intensive week-long summer program.  The focus of KBS is its hands-on simulation of municipal, county and state government.

The FMCSA recently added an apprenticeship program so that CDL holders who are between the ages of 18-21 will be able to cross state lines when working for certain trucking companies.   

CCAC now offers training for a Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).  Classes meet at CCAC's Boyce Campus. CCAC's curriculum prepares students to take the CDL Class A knowledge, skills, and road tests.   Train for a Pennsylvania Class A CDL License in eight weeks!

The knowledge test covers general knowledge, combination vehicles, air brakes, hazardous materials, tankers, and double-triples. The skills test requires performing a pre-trip inspection and various backing and parking maneuvers. The road test consists of driving a predetermined route.

The curriculum also covers:

• Department of Transportation (DOT) & Hours of Service regulations
• Map reading & trip planning
• Shifting techniques
• Industry Terminology & career Opportunities

Before taking the CDL Class A course, students must successfully complete the CDL Class A prerequisite course (Part 1) and also pass a DOT physical and drug screen.

CCAC is seeking high school students ages 14 to 17 with an interest in pursuing a trades career to participate in the Skilled Trades Academy.
