The Western PA Learning Academy will be holding its fall SAT Boot Camp on September 22, 2024, from Noon - 5:00 PM at Fox Chapel High School for students from ANY school district. This 5 hours intensive workshop is focused on test-taking and time management, grammar, usage, math, critical reading skills, and test-taking strategies. The instructors are experienced and highly trained. Students will partake in practice drills with actual test questions and keep all review materials. Westinghouse Science Honors Institute is pleased to invite Junior students to participate in the 2024-2025 Westinghouse Science Honors Institute (WSHI) lecture series! This year, we have ten lectures scheduled, including two optional trips to the Penn State Breazeale Nuclear Reactor.
Our Certificate of Completion achievement will require students to attend six of the ten lectures. Attending one optional trip to Penn State does count as a lecture. Receiving a certificate is based solely on attendance. There will not be an exam at the conclusion of the lecture series.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re inviting your students on a FREE bus trip to Penn State University Park on Monday, October 7!
The trip includes bus transportation, meals, campus tours, and multicultural activities while learning all that Penn State has to offer.
The bus departs from the David Lawrence Convention Center at 10th St. & Ft. Duquesne Blvd. in downtown Pittsburgh. Students will board promptly at 7:45 a.m., and return at approximately 8:00 p.m. Students are responsible for their own transportation to & from the David Lawrence Convention Center.

The FBI’s Teen Academy program in Pittsburgh and West Virginia allows a diverse group of high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and to investigate the world of law enforcement. Active explorations of fitness and forensic science grow students’ minds and bodies while age-appropriate lessons on topics such as violence prevention, sextortion, and hoax threats teach them how to stay safe. FBI staff, including special agents, intelligence analysts, and professional staff, lead discussions and interactive sessions focused on the work we do, how we do it, and, most importantly, why we choose this work in service of all Americans.
Any student with an interest in leadership and service is welcome to apply for this free opportunity. An interest in a law enforcement career is not a prerequisite.
Requirements
Students who will be rising juniors or seniors in the 2024/25 school year are eligible to apply.
Students who are 16 or older may be subject to a simple background check process, and they must provide their Social Security number for that purpose. Students 16 and older are also required to show Real ID-compliant photo identification when entering FBI space.
The selection process is competitive, and all students should give their best effort in completing this application. A selection committee will evaluate each application based on a review of the information provided, and no single element (GPA, school/community service, or essay) is disqualifying. Applications that are incomplete, illegible, or late will not be accepted.
Students are expected to advocate for themselves to throughout this process, including asking for further information about the program or the application process, if necessary. Students may request information about the Beckley, Charleston, Martinsburg, and Wheeling Teen Academies by contacting wnbarnhart@fbi.gov or about the Pittsburgh Teen Academy by contacting fatrovato@fbi.gov at any time.

Students should submit the APPLICATION by email (preferred) or mail no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. We will notify students of their application status by email no later than Thursday, September 26, 2024. Students selected to participate in the FBI Teen Academy will be given additional information about the program and will be required to confirm their acceptance into this program. If selected students do not respond to the acceptance email by the deadline given, the student’s application will be discontinued.

The FMCSA recently added an apprenticeship program so that CDL holders who are between the ages of 18-21 will be able to cross state lines when working for certain trucking companies.
CCAC now offers training for a Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Classes meet at CCAC's Boyce Campus. CCAC's curriculum prepares students to take the CDL Class A knowledge, skills, and road tests. Train for a Pennsylvania Class A CDL License in eight weeks!
The knowledge test covers general knowledge, combination vehicles, air brakes, hazardous materials, tankers, and double-triples. The skills test requires performing a pre-trip inspection and various backing and parking maneuvers. The road test consists of driving a predetermined route.
